» Starting A Chapter
By becoming a member of MEISA, you join a national network of
college/university students with similar interests and goals. Joining a
professional organization such as MEISA can facilitate learning and
networking between members. Once you have established your own chapter
of MEISA, national recognition is essential for optimal benefits. In
addition to being a part of a national network, national MEISA
membership also provides several incentives, including:
- Admission to regional and national MEIEA/MEISA
conferences
- MEISA membership voting privileges
- Participation in the MEISA Scholarship program
- Access to the online internship resource
- National and regional leadership opportunities
- Discounts on certain music industry events,
organizations, and publications
Starting a MEISA chapter is a plenty of hard work
and requires dedication and initiative. But the end results and reward,
both tangible and intangible, are agreed by many to be well worth it.
If you're planning on starting your own chapter, National MEISA has put
together some a handbook for you to use in starting your chapter, which
can be downloaded at the Chapter Resources
page. MEISA is also putting together some testimonials from students
across the nation about MEISA. A few are below and more will be up very
promptly!
"Being a member of MEISA has positively shaped my professional goals.
As President of the University of the Pacific Chapter, I helped
coordinate the MEIEA/MEISA National Conference in '06. Soon after, I
landed a rockstar internship at the music subscription service,
Rhapsody, working for Editor-in-Chief, Jon Maples, who was a panelist
at the event. Almost two years later, after presiding as both Chapter
President and National President of MEISA, I'm now living in Seattle
working in advertising-sales at Real Networks (the parent company of
Rhapsody) and I can proudly say that my presence here is due to my
active participation in MEISA."
